Licence & Monthly Support Costs: Contact your Account Manager to discuss licence and monthly charges since these will depend on the number of download products, the amount of storage required and the volume of traffic which will increase bandwidth usage.


Sell intangible goods delivered electronically, such as ebooks, PDFs or design files. Once the buyer has purchased the product, an email will be sent to them with the link to get the download. Store files up to 100Mb on your store, or if they are over 100Mb then store them on your own cloud and use a link to download them from there. 



FILE SHARING & DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT


The system works by sending a download link to the purchaser and there are some important points to consider regarding file protection and sharing:

  1. Anyone with the link can download the file.

    We suggest you mark the download as Private / secure which obfuscates the link meaning it isn't easy to guess the name of the link directly or other similar ones thereby protecting your downloadable assets.

    Better still, you should consider giving each download a randomised name to achieve the same level of protection against people trying to guess filenames to access other assets.

    You can also force someone to have to log in to download the file which is a separate layer of access.

    However, it doesn't stop someone sharing the link once they have it.

  2. Anyone who has downloaded the file can share it.

    Once someone has the file they can share it with other people if they choose to as there is no additional digital rights management once it's on their own storage device. Typically, you will rely on your terms and conditions to cover ownership of your IP (Intellectual Property) and prohibiting file sharing and, if applicable, using the assets for manufacture or onward sale. Example wording is given at the end of this article.


Initial SetUp Of Digital Products To Work On Your Store

  • Disable downloads from appearing on the product page in the template system (your designer can do this for you).
  • Go into Purchase Events and add a new event with the Event field set to download.

  • Set up the content with the download link that will be emailed to the buyer in the system page: "email_purchase_event_download"



Add Your Downloads 

  • Add your downloads either in:
    • Download Manager and then add it against the product to which it relates, or;

    • Via Product Manager > select product record > Main Tab > Related Downloads section;


  • Still in the product record > Prices & Delivery tab > select the Purchase Event you set up previously and also tick "Is this is a digital product" :

  • Upload the files to websites, forums, file-sharing platforms, or any cloud storage intended for public access.

  • Modify or reverse-engineer the files for resale or redistribution.

  • Use the files to manufacture and sell physical products without a commercial license.

4. Breach and Enforcement
Any unauthorised sharing, resale, or distribution of digital content constitutes a breach of this agreement and a violation of copyright law. [Your Company Name] reserves the right to:

  • Revoke access to current and future purchases without refund

  • Pursue legal action, including claims for damages, loss of earnings, and legal costs

  • Report infringements to marketplaces, hosting services, and relevant authorities

5. Reporting Abuse
If you become aware of any unauthorised use or distribution of our digital content, please report it to [your contact email] immediately.

Test

Place test orders on the system to make sure you receive the email and that the download link works.


Monitor

Monitor your download activity after you've gone live to keep an eye on your bandwidth usage as this may increase and trigger additional costs. You can view this via Admin > Bandwidth Usage.
